Okyeame kwame write is your Destiny (Hyebre) in your hands or God?

 

A man I know personally was poisoned by his superstitious senior brother . This man by name Kwame had been deported from Lagos in 19 88, deported from Norway in 1992, and from England in 1995 . He had returned to Kumasi to heal his wounds when his senior brother who was jealous of him poisoned his food with the intention of killing him. The senior Bro later confessed that his younger Brother had travelled the world before him so their witch mother had switched their destinies .. Kwame in his stress screamed that “if my struggle is your destiny , then please take it back ! “ 

Destiny, is defined as an event that will necessarily happen to a person in the future . In the Akans world view, God controls ones destiny but evil people can change it . However, if your soul or mind (Sunsum) is strong, you can reclaim it . 

In this light, if I succeed in life it is through Gods design but if I fail , it is by evil doers because my sunsum wasn’t strong enough . One has very little choice and control over his /her life . The Greeks had a similar belief. Atropos, Clotho and Lachesis were the three women controlling fate in their mythology. 

The year is 2021 

, are you still thinking like this ? Do you think an external force has control over your life ? Do you attribute unfortunate accidents to fate and fortunate accidents to God ? 

I know that I have no control over what is happening to me from external activities, but I have 100 percent control over my internal experience . I know that my success or failure is a consequence of my actions and inactions. 

How about my talents ? Are they my developed interests or I was born with them ? If I was born with them , is it for a particular purpose or my life’s direction is governed by my socio-cultural environment and my socialization? 

Personally , I think destiny is what we create consciously and mostly unconsciously . 

If God meddled with destiny , then God should be responsible for all the suffering and sadness in this world . However, when we are honest with ourselves, we see that all of these are caused by lack of consciousness . 

Africa ! It is time to relook at our worldview and take our destiny into our own hands through responsibility.
